City tour of Yerevan includes a visit to the Armenian History Museum. Excursion to the biggest panarmenian church Grigor Lousavorich - the opening ceremony of this church was blessed by his holiness John Paul II. Overnight in Yerevan. Day 2: Holy See Echmiadzin/Zvartnots /Vernissage -60 km (B, L) Depart for Echmiadzin, 20 kms from Yerevan. It is the centre of the Armenian - Gregorian Church and appears to be one of the world's first Christian churches. Visit The Churches of St. Hripsimeh St. Gayane (630 AD) that are masterpieces of Armenian architecture. Return to Yerevan with stop at the ruins of the 7th C Zvartnots temple - an architectural gem. Lunch in a local restaurant in Yerevan. Visit the open air market of Vernissage that bustles with hundreds of vendors selling a variety of crafts on weekends. Overnight at Yerevan. Day 4: Sagmossavank/ Amberd Fortress/ Sanahin & Haghpat Monasteries/Dzoraget – 220 km (B, D) Excursion to the 13th C Sagmossavank monastery whose names translates as “monastery of psalms”. Then visit Amberd, a fortress complex. The princely castle of Amberd was built in the 9th to 13TH C. Drive to the Lori region for a tour of the architectural complexes of Sanahin (966 AD) and Haghpat (976 AD) that are amongst the outstanding works of medieval Armenian architecture and are UNESCO World Heritage listed. Overnight at the hotel Avan Dzoraget. Day 5: Dzoraget/ Dilijan/ Goshavank/ Lake Sevan/ Yerevan – 280 km (B, L) Early departure from the Dzoraget village to Dilijan, a famous resort area in Armenia. On the upper reaches of the Agstev River, is the 12th -13th C Goshavank Monastery. Continue tour to Lake Sevan for a local lunch. Lake Sevan is the largest alpine lake in the world and the second highest freshwater lake in the world and is located about 100 kms north of Yerevan Return to Yerevan. Overnight in Yerevan. Day 6: Khor Virap/ Areni/ Noravank – 250 km (B, L) Sightseeing tour to Khor-Virap monastery, 45 kms from Yerevan. It is situated in the Ararat valley against the biblical Ararat Mountain, were Noah's ark reputedly cast anchor. Continue to Noravank monastery - a great religious and cultural centre of 12th c. En route visit Areni wine factory to taste local wine made from special vines. Noravank (“New Monastery”) is 122 kms away from Yerevan. The oldest structure of the monastery is the church of St. Karapet (9th -10th C) that has not survived. Drive back to Yerevan. Overnight in Yerevan. Day 7: The Matenadaran/ Garni/ Gueghard – 80 km (B, L, D) Visit to Matenadaran, a depository of ancient manuscripts from all over Europe and Asia. It also contains the first copy of the Bible in Armenian. Continue to the Garni Temple, built in the first century A.D.by the Armenian King Tiridates and dedicated to a heathen god. Lunch at a local house in Garni where you can observe Armenian national bread “lavash” being baked and a barbeque being cooked in an underground stove called a “tonir”. After a visit to Geghard monastery, drive back to Yerevan. Overnight in Yerevan 8 day: Depart Yerevan (B) Transfer to the airport. Included: - 7 nights accommodation in first class hotels
