  • Denmark - Self-Drive Secrets of Denmark
    OVERVIEW
    DETAILED ITINERARY

    Day 1: Copenhagen
Arrive in Copenhagen, a modern and vibrant city with plenty of atmosphere. Make your way to your hotel.

    Day 2 Copenhagen-Odense (B)
On your way to Odense cross the Great Belt Bridge. Odense is the birthplace of Denmark’s well-known storyteller Hans Christian Andersen. This afternoon is at leisure.

    Day 3 Odense-Sonderborg  (B)
Drive through southern Funen – possible detour to see one of Denmark’s best-kept renaissance castles, the magnificent “Egeskov” Castle. Take a ferry to the island of Als and Sonderborg.

    Day 4: Sonderborg-Ribe (B)
Travel across the south of Denmark and on to Ribe, Denmark’s oldest town.  Wander through the old cobblestone streets of this medieval town. This best-preserved town in Denmark offers its guests a unique ambience that in most other towns vanished long ago.

    Day 5: Ribe-Thisted (B)
Drive north towards Esbjerg. We recommend following the Marguerite Route with its familiar white/brown signs all the way to Thisted. The drive offers beautiful detours and scenic roads.

    Day 6: Thisted-Aalborg (B)
Aalborg is the fourth largest town of Denmark. You should not miss a visit to the charming shopping streets down town.

    Day 7: Aalborg (B)
For your day at leisure we recommend a trip to Skagen – Denmark’s northernmost point where two seas meet. Skagen used to be the place where famous Danish painters met to get inspiration from the unspoiled beaches and beauty.

    Day 8: Aalborg-Roskilde (B)
Drive to Randers through Femmoller and Kalo where you will find an old castle Kalo Slot with a scenic walk out to the island. Ebeltoft is an idyllic small town with narrow cobbled streets and a fantastic wooden ship – the frigate “Jylland”, built in 1856. Take the ferry to Odden on Sealand, and then continue to Roskilde.

    Day 9: Roskilde. (B)
Explore Roskilde, tracing its origin to the Viking Age around the 990’s. Visit the Roskilde Cathedral, which is on UNESCO’s World Heritage List and the Viking Ship Museum. Or, drive to Copenhagen (35 km) and see the Royal Castle Amalienborg, the picturesque old harbour “Nyhavn”, the famous shopping street “Stroget”, and the Tivoli Gardens.

    Day 10: Roskilde. (B)
Your tour ends after breakfast this morning.

For a fascinating self-drive holiday in France head to the Loire Valley. The beautification of the Loire Valley in 15th and 16th C by successive French monarchs and their wealthy courtiers may well be the most extravagant rural building program in Europe’s history. This itinerary takes in the highlights of the Loire Valley.

Spend a week of your holiday in France exploring the lyrical Côte d'Azur.  Historically, artists have loved this area in France for its limpid light and vibrant colours. Although wealth and conspicuous glamour are the hallmark of this corner of France, the less trampled hinterland is well worth exploring at your own pace. From vantage points in elevated French villages, it was possible to glimpse the dramatic Mediterranean shoreline and reap the rewards of travelling on the quieter D roads.

In 1815 Napoléon journeyed on horseback from Golfe Juan, east of Cannes, to Grenoble on what is now known as the Route Napoléoon (Route Nationale 85). It features some of the most dramatic scenery in France. The places where he and his troops ate meals and spent their nights will thrill anyone who has a penchant for French history. A one-week drive using comfortable hotels, coupled with some satisfying meals and glorious scenery, has never made history so appealing.

A self-drive tour that includes accommodation in some of Ireland’s heritage castles.

This holiday in France is a 6-day tour encapsulating the history, gastromony and beautiful sights of Provence, France.
