Hotel New Montana Day 2: Brasov (B) Morning visit to Peles Castle, the former royal residence of King Carol I. This magnificent German Renaissance-style palace is an assemblage of turrets rising above acres of green meadows. In the afternoon, visit ‘Dracula’s Castle’ at Bran. Transfer to nearby Brasov Hotel Aro Palace Day 3: Gura Humorului (B, D) Morning tour of the medieval town of Brasov. Then travel north from Transylvania to southern Bucovina, now part of Moldavia, via the Red Lake, the Bicaz Gorges and the spectacular scenery of the eastern Carpathians. En route, visit Neamt Monastery, the oldest in Romania, dating from the 14th century. Best Western Bucovina Hotel Day 4: Gura Humorului (B, D) Visit the area’s remarkable painted monasteries. These churches were painted in the 15th and 16th centuries, when Turkish invaders threatened Moldavia, and feature vivid mural frescoes, created to educate and entertain the illiterate soldiers and peasants. Day 5: Sighisoara (B) Drive back into Transylvania to Sighisoara, travelling through stunning mountain scenery and the Borgo Pass. Visit Bistrita en route, a small market town in the Bârgau Valley in the heart of ‘Dracula land’. Hotel Casa Wagner. Day 6: Sibiu (B) Morning tour of Sighisoara, a beautifully preserved medieval town set in rolling countryside. Visits include the citadel, 14th and 15th century churches and the Old Clock Tower. This afternoon, travel to Biertan to visit the Gothic fortified church, and continue to Sibiu. Forum Continental Hotel. Day 7: Sibiu (B) Morning tour of Sibiu, a Saxon town that combines late Renaissance, early Gothic, classical and Transylvanian baroque architecture. The tour includes the Brukenthal Art Museum. Afternoon visit to the picturesque village of Sibiel and its Glass Icon Museum. Day 8: Bucharest (B) Morning departure for Bucharest through the scenic Olt Valley. Afternoon tour of Bucharest, a city of wide, Parisian-style boulevards and Belle Époque buildings. See the Old Princely Court, the Royal Palace and the Palace of Parliament. Pullman Hotel.
